Lolware Licensing

So Much Win

LolDNS is my fork of djbdns. The goal here has been to go beyond the many current forks of just perpetuating the product, and to actually do away with the things that djbdns used to get slammed for.

I recently received some advise regarding licensing. I honestly hadn't thought much about this - djbdns was public domain, and I assumed derivatives of it would be. I was wrong.

This put me in a bind. I really didn't want to hamper loldns in such a way that people used licensing as an excuse not to use it. Even more importantly, I didn't want to do something djb-like, and come up with a license so encroached in academia that noone but himself ends up able to effectively distribute it.

At the same time, I needed a license that was consistent with the lolware philosophy. Simply telling placing the project in the public domain contradicted this requirement. Accordingly, I have come up with the "Win" license. I have updated the loldns package to remove several of DJB's licensing notes (which still refer to a copyright, but were written prior to his moving the project to the public domain) and added a LICENSE file. I intend on utilising this license format for future Lolware projects. I do also note that it was Dan who wrote the majority of the product.
